Answers to Your Questions
Does my business need professional bookkeeping?
Many people starting their own business do their own bookkeeping. This is not what we would recommend as costly mistakes can still be made even at the early stages, but certainly once your business is getting busy it is recommended to have professional bookkeeping services. This will ensure that you don’t miss any allowances, you don’t make mistakes, you don’t end up with fines and you always have an accurate picture of where your business is financially. You can start with as little as one hour per month.
Can I do some of the bookkeeping myself?
Our bookkeeping service to our clients is bespoke to their needs, so we can work together to come up with a package which suits you. If you would prefer to chase up your invoices yourself – you can. If it is easier for you to send your client invoices – no problem. We even offer training and workshops so you can learn how to use Xero or run your Construction Industry Scheme.
How much does bookkeeping cost?
I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that it varies. All businesses are different and all teams and owners require different levels of service. The cost of your bookkeeping will depend on many factors; are you VAT registered, do you have staff, how do your customers pay, what is your turnover. The best way to find out how much bookkeeping will cost you…get in touch for a bespoke quote.
Are bookkeeping and accounting the same?
No, they are not. Bookkeeping is the first part of the process; we keep the day to day records and organise the financial data. Accountants tend to interpret and present that data, monthly, quarterly or annually. You WILL need an accountant if you are a Limited Company to submit your Annual Report and Accounts and you should use one to submit your Self Assessment Tax Return if you are self employed. We work closely with several local accountancy firms to provide a full service to our clients.
Why do you only use Xero?
We only use Xero because after many (many) years of bookkeeping experience we have found it to be; the most secure, the most reliable and the most flexible bookkeeping software on the market. Our Xero Superheroes have completed the Xero Adviser Certification which means we are Xero Gold Partners. We are able to offer full training on Xero, so if you and your team are unfamiliar with it…you won’t be for long.
Does my bookkeeper need to be in my office?
Perhaps you remember the days when the bookkeeper came into the office on Wednesday mornings and sat at the dusty bookkeeping computer to update the records. We don’t need to do that anymore, thanks to ‘the internet’ our bookkeeping superheroes can work with clients anywhere and provide even better levels of service than if they were in your own office. Got a lot of real life paperwork – don’t worry – we have a simple system for that too!
